Avengers Trailer Tops 10 Millions Downloads, Shattering Apple's Previous Records

There’s “anticipated,” and then there’s “Avengers anticipated.” Fans anxious to get their first full look at Joss Whedon’s ensemble adventure finally got their wish on Oct. 11 when Marvel Studios dropped the full trailer online. And man, did Marvel supporters turn out in droves.

According to a release, the Avengers clip was downloaded more than 10 million times in its first 24 hours on iTunes Movie Trailers, decimating the previous record for views on a trailer in the site's history.

Yeah, but did fans like it? Our own Katey Rich, in trying to figure out why the trailer’s arrival didn’t set the Internet world on fire, ran through five solid reasons why the clip was kind of a letdown. In my opinion, I would have liked to see a little more footage of the Avengers in action together. The movie famously unites Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) in a battle against Thor’s step-brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston). And while my inner geek is going crazy over that rapid shot of Cap versus Thor, I was hoping for a little more “oomph” from the first glance.

But Avengers broke records, as we probably could have guessed it would. Marvel has been building toward this one over the course of multiple origin stories and over the span of three years.
